When it comes to Kilgore Democrats, Jimmie Faye Myers' name appears at the top of the list when it comes to attendance at state and national conventions.
Only one delegate from state Senatorial District one could be elected for the trip to represent Hillary Clinton in Denver, Col. August 25 through 28; after a 16-county campaign, she's headed to the national convention again.
"This isn't my first rodeo," Myers said. "I have been to many state and national conventions."
In fact, Myers has already been to two national conventions including one in Los Angeles, Cal. And one in Chicago, Ill. Myers also attended both of Bill Clinton's inaugurations.
Myers, former long-time Rusk County Democrat Precinct Chair, said every step of her campaign was worth it.
"I am excited about going," Myers said. "This is where you get to see democracy in action."
According to Myers her time in Denver will be spent between hearing resolutions and listening in on platform committees, credential committees and nominating committees.
"Hillary may have suspended her campaign, but she did not release her delegates and I look forward to finding just how many delegates each of the candidates get," Myers said. "I am praying for a miracle."
Not giving up hope, Myers clings to the fact that Clinton's campaign has garnered some 18 million votes.
"That is more than any other presidential candidate has ever received," Myers said. "But, whichever candidate is announced as nominee at the convention in August is who I'll support."
Myers retired from Kilgore Independent School District in 1996. She has worked for Henderson ISD since 2004. Myers, in addition to her political affiliations, is president of Texas State Teachers Association and will travel to Washington, D.C. next week for a week-long National Education Association Conference.
Joining Myers in Denver, for Clinton, is Phillip White, of Longview. George Fombey, of Pittsburg, is a Clinton alternate.
Obama's local delegates include Vanessa Campbell, of Longview and Thomas Hill of Pittsburg.
Clinton has promised each delegate an allotted amount of time.
"This is where it all happens," Myers said. "I can't wait."
