KISD hires new high school principal

Greg Brown, assistant principal at Pine Tree High School, has been named principal at Kilgore high School.
Kilgore Independent School District has been searching for a replacement for KHS principal Bobby Wheeley since his transfer to a new position in KISD administration.
At special meeting of the school board was called yesterday, trustees interviewed two candidates for the position.
Brown and Phillip Works, an assistant principal at Sabine High School, were interviewed.
The board talked with both candidates and were then into executive session for two and a half hours of deliberation .
Jody Clements, superintendent for KISD, said a committee earlier selected the two candidates in no particular order and left the final decision up to the board to make.
When the board reconvened in open session the board voted to hire Brown. All trustees present - Dereck Borders was not at the meeting - agreed on the selection.
Brown holds a masters degree in education from Texas A&M-Texarkana and received his teacher certification at Stephen F. Austin University. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and graduated from Nacogdoches High School.

Brown has taught at Tyler Chapel Hill junior high school, Daingerfield- Lone Star junior high school and also at their high school, Jefferson high school and junior high school. Brown was also the athletic director and head football coach at Jefferson ISD before being named assistant principal at Pine Tree Middle School.
Brown was named district football coach of the year in 2002, he has been named teacher of the month on several occasions, was named "Friends of Special Students" at Daingerfield Lone Star ISD, achieved career level at Daingerfield- Lone Star ISD and is a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.
Brown said this is what he has been working towards as assistant principal and when the position opened up at KISD he felt this was a great opportunity for him. "I look forward to coming to Kilgore and working with everyone in the district," said Brown.
The board also named Jennifer Dollins, of Hawkins, new assistant principal for Kilgore Intermediate School. This position was vacated when assistant principal Andy Adams was moved to the position of principal after Cheryl Halla's retirement.
The board voted unanimously to hire Dollins.
Dollins has eight years at Hawkins Independent School District, received her bachelor of science at UT-Tyler and her masters degree at LeTourneau University.
