MLMS student receives Duke Talent Search award

Trevor O'Quinn (left) receives his award from Superintendent Jody Clements, KISD for the Duke Talent Search.
The Kilgore Independent School District board of trustees recognized Trevor O'Quinn, a Maude Laird Middle School student in the seventh grade last week for his accomplishment in the 2008 Duke Talent Identification Program for the seventh grade.

The program was founded in 1980 and is dedicated to the cultivation and education of talented youth.

Jody Clements, KISD superintendent said O'Quinn was recognized based on his standardized test scores, either the SAT Reasoning Test or the ACT Assessment college entrance examination.

Clements said O'Quinn scored above the national average on at least one part of the SAT. "Students recognized for this award qualified at the state level by scoring at or better than 75 percent of the juniors and seniors in high school who took the college entrance exams," said Clements.

Trevor is the son of Mike and Brenda O'Quinn.
