Kilgore offers summer fun for youth

If the kiddies are looking for something to do this summer, plenty can be found right here in Kilgore, between Kilgore Together and the Boys & Girls Club.

Kilgore Together has an array of activities planned all throughout the summer, beginning with an end of the school year activity for Open to students who will be in grades five through 12 next fall, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Kilgore City Park, sponsored by Kilgore Churches.

Other June activities sponsored by Kilgore Together include: free swim, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Kilgore City Pool sponsored by Kilgore Together; at 7:05 p.m. June 21 Youth with a Kilgore Together t-shirt will get in to see the Pump Jacks game for $2; and, on June 28 a free Skating Party at Interskate in Kilgore from 7:30 p.m. until 11 p.m. (Sponsored in part by Interskate).

In July another pool party is scheduled 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 11, at the city pool, followed by Open Gym and Games Night 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. July activities close out with hotdogs and a movie in the park, 7:30 p.m. July 25 at City Park.

August splashes in with another pool party 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 2 at the city pool, followed by another movie in the park with snacks 7:30 p.m. August 8 at City Park. August and the summer culminate in a final evening of bowling 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 15 at Pappy's Rock 'n' Bowl.

At the Boys & Girls club children are invited for a summer of fun activities.

David Stiewe, unit director, said the club has planned five themes in which children will participate this summer. Each theme will culminate in an end of theme bash.

Fun kicks off with Wet & Wild Days, which will end in a waterfest event complete with water balloons and other slippery events.

Other themes in which the children may participate are Wild West Days, ending in a Frontier Day; Americapalooza, ending in a fourth of July Family Picnic; Olympic week, ending with the Loony Games; and, Hawaiian days, ending with a luau.

The entire summer costs $50 for one child, $40 for a second child from the same household and $30 for each additional child.

Hours of operation at 8 am until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and the Boys and Girls Club is located at 724 East Harris St., one block east of R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
