Raymond Caldwell brings the Texas Shakespeare Festival to Rotarians
By GREG COLLINS Publicity Chairman

Raymond Caldwell, artistic director of the Texas Shakespeare Festival since its beginning, was the guest speaker at the Kilgore Rotary Club on Wednesday.

Caldwell talked about the upcoming festival, which begins July 3 and runs through August 3. This is a bit late on the starting point, but Caldwell insists that will not deter crowds from attending the plays.

This year, the Shakespeare plays are Julius Caesar and Twelfth Night. The non-Shakespeare play is The Royal Hunt of the Sun and the musical is 1776. The children's play will be The Magic Lotus Lantern.

Tickets go on sale to Guild members early next week, and then others may start buying tickets on Friday.

There will be two shows each day, a matinee and evening performance. Tickets are available by calling the Texas Shakespeare Festival Box Office located on the Kilgore College campus.

Caldwell said the musical is one that has been done before and will be absolutely breathtaking. He also said Julius Caesar and Twelfth Night will be top notch, but the one that everyone needs to see is The Royal Hunt of the Sun. This play is not produced a lot, and those who miss this production may never have the chance to see it again. It has been called a classic play of modern times and should be very entertaining.

In other Rotary news, Shelia Haralson, a Maude Laird Middle School teacher, was named Teacher of the Month. She has been teaching Reading for nine years and also worked as a PTA volunteer and aide before that. She was given a plaque and a certificate for her honor.

Ten Kilgore Rotarians attended the District Conference and took part in the activities. The Kilgore club had the most in attendance of anyone but Tyler, the host club and a much bigger club.

Sammy York will be installed as the next Rotary President on Tuesday, June 24 at Meadowbrook Country Club. Later that week, on June 28, Steve Brown will be installed as the District Governor. His first meeting as District Governor will be a visit to the Kilgore Rotary Club on July 2.

This next week, Catherine Wood, Patty Toronto and Karen Moss with Rotary World Community Service in Nepal will be guest speakers.

The Kilgore Rotary Club meets each Wednesday at noon in the ballroom of the Meadowbrook Country Club. Guests are always welcome.
