Kilgore Main Street finally has its own logo.
"We have been looking for a logo since the program was adopted," Fallon Burns, Main Street manager, said. "The logo is important because we use it to brand downtown as a destination and promote the Main Street program."
After months of searching, Burns found Gayle Aston, of Gayle Aston
Design Works, to handle logo design.
"Our first meeting with Gayle we discussed the image and feeling we wanted to logo to have, Burns said. "Since most of the architecture downtown was done in the art deco era, it only seemed natural that we have an art deco inspired logo."
Ashton toured downtown Kilgore and took pictures of buildings with pronounced art deco details.
By the next meeting Aston had prepared concept sketches that included Kilgore's famous skyline, with roof tops and the derricks and a triangular art deco pattern found on several downtown buildings; but, most prevalent on Boomtown Video and Texas Smoothies. Ashton chose an art deco font for 'Main Street' and a more industrial font for Kilgore. According to Burns the Advisory board happy with Ashton's art work. "It is a beautiful reflection of downtown," Burns said.
