Free pulmonary seminar in Kilgore sponsored by UTHSCT

Thousands of East Texans die from lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease each year, while thousands more suffer from debilitating illness.

Find out how to improve your lung health at "Breathing Easier: From Distress to Hope," a free seminar set for 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Kilgore Public Library, 301 N. Henderson Blvd. in Kilgore. The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler sponsors the seminar.

David Coultas, MD, a nationally known UTHSCT pulmonologist, will outline the signs and symptoms of lung diseases. According to the American Lung Association, lung disease is the third-leading cause of death in the United States, responsible for one in seven deaths. However, effective treatments do exist, especially when lung diseases are diagnosed in their early stages.

Dr. Coultas also will talk about how to protect yourself from developing lung diseases common to East Texas. He will discuss how to determine when breathing problems are serious enough to require a visit to a pulmonologist.

Free blood pressure screenings will be available beginning at 10 a.m., with the presentation starting at 10:30 a.m.

The seminar is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of Paradigm Rehab & Nursing.

To register, please call (903) 877-5122. For more information, visit the UTHSCT Website at www.uthct.edu.
