File photo by Lester Murray ANOTHER AWARD - Sabine senior Sandy James (right) is congratulated by coach Sarah Ricks-Creech after hitting a home run earlier this season. James and the Lady Cardinals reached the second round of the UIL Class 3A playoffs before being ousted by Bullard. James was recently named the District 15-3A All-District offensive most valuable player. Other Sabine players were honored, as well.
The softball program at Sabine High School is definitely headed in the right direction, and because of that, several Sabine players were honored recently as they were chosen to be a part of the District 15-3A All-District team. And the baseball team got a little recognition, too.

Sandy James, who pitched most of the Lady Cardinals' games, was honored for her bat - James was named the district's offensive player of the year, and it's little wonder why. She batted .585 this season, and had 13 doubles as a part of that.

Making the 15-3A all-district first team for Sabine were Janell DeFreece and Chelsea Headley. Chosen to the second team was Sabine's Cortnee Ryan, and Lindsey Bryce, Shayla Gossett, Alex Easley and Hayley Hayes were named honorable mention.

Superlatives on the team went to Spring Hill's Kayla Williams, who was named the district's overall MVP. Kiara Jordan of Gilmer was named defensive MVP. Shannon Sanders of Spring Hill was named newcomer of the year, and Gladewater's Kevin Clark and Spring Hill's Mark Comfort were named co-district coaches of the year.

Sabine's softball team made it to the area round of the UIL Class 3A playoffs.

In baseball, Zac Howell was named District 15- 3A newcomer of the year (along with Spring Hill's Nico Moran). Other Sabine baseball players honored were Jeremy Montana and Colton Harvick, who both were named to the 15-3A second team.
