Overton-McLeod playoff series moved
By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

If you were thinking about going to Harmony tonight to watch the Overton High School Mustangs face off against McLeod in the UIL Class 1A baseball quarterfinals, your plans are changed.

Overton High athletic director Stephen DuBose informed the Kilgore News Herald this morning of a last-second change: the best-of-three series, scheduled to begin tonight, will not be able to be played at Harmony ISD's baseball field.

"Harmony ISD informed us that their field will not be playable this weekend due to the heavy rainfall," DuBose told the News Herald via email.

Instead, the Mustangs have to make the drive to Texas High's field in Texarkana tonight for a 7 p.m. start for Game 1. Game 2 (and Game 3, if it's needed) will be tomorrow at Beckville High, with Game 2 starting at 2 p.m. If a third game needs to be played to break a tie, it will follow Game 2.

"I am sorry for the inconvenience," DuBose said, "but after an exhaustive search for fields this scenario was our best option."

The Mustangs are 20-3, have won 15 straight games and are ranked second in the state in 1A in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll. Overton won its district and got a first-round bye in the playoffs (as did McLeod). The Mustangs defeated Avery in two games last weekend. Overton, coached by OHS alumni Travis Jackson and assistant Terry Lowery, hasn't lost a game since Feb. 29.
