KILGORE'S RIOS, ROGERS SIGN WITH LON MORRIS

Photo by Lester Murray Kilgore High School senior soccer players Cassie Rodgers (seated, second from left) and Carmen Rios (seated, third from left) have signed to continue their education and their soccer careers on the collegiate level at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. The two Lady Bulldogs were joined by coaches Amanda Walzel (far left, standing) and Alice Crocker (beside Walzel), as well as their parents, Linda and Jorge Rios and Beverly and Craig Rogers. This is Walzel's second season as head girls soccer coach at KHS, and her second and third former athletes to move on and play ball at the next level (Dana Deerinwater, now at Texas A&M Commerce, was her first). "Cassie really improved last year, when she was on (junior varsity)," Walzel noted. "She was one of those girls who just played hard all season and only got better. Carmen led our team in assists this season, and was among the leaders in goals. She did everything we asked of her, and did it well." Rios was selected second-team midfielder as a part of the All-District team, chosen by the coaches. She plans to major in radiology. Rogers said she plans on majoring in nursing. Congratulations, girls!
