Jimmy D. Ward, son of Freddie and Frances Ward of Kilgore, has been promoted to Area Director of Operations with Walgreen's. He is a graduate of Leverett's Chapel High School and Kilgore College. He joined the company in 1968 as a service clerk, became a pharmacist in 1971, a store manager in 1973, a district manager in 1983 and was most recently Houston Southeast District Manager. "Several of the Kilgore managers (at our local Walgreen's) know Jimmy or have trained under him," said his mother. "It surprised them when I walked into the store and introduced myself. They were not aware that his mother lived here," she laughed. Ironically, Morris Hollowell, pharmacist at Kilgore's Wal- Mart and Jimmy were friends in high school and they graduated from pharmacy school at the University of Houston on the same day. The Ward family moved to Kilgore from Overton in 1958. Freddie Ward has been pastor of Highland Park Assembly of God Church for twenty-eight years. Jimmy's new title has moved him into a pilot program for Walgreen's. There are only two in the United States - one in Dallas and the other in Houston. It looks like he plans on staying in Houston a little longer, Mom. Perhaps he will return to Kilgore upon retirement. +++ Tina Bonner, who is pregnant with triplets, is undergoing treatment at LSU Hospital in Shreveport. In her fifth month, Tina began to have problems Sunday afternoon. The doctors have decided for her safety, as well as the babies, that she needs to stay in the hospital until their birth. Cards can be sent to Tina c/o Kilgore National Bank, Box 9410, Kilgore, Tx. 75663, and they will be delivered to her. A fund has been set up at the Kilgore National Bank for any cash donations. Please keep Tina, her husband, Earl, and their families in your prayers. +++ The police department has been called out several times recently due to burglar alarms being set off by roofers. Last week, Mrs. Edwin Holt received a call to inform her police had been sent to her residence. "Do you know the police are at your house?" asked the caller. "Why, no," she replied. "But, who is this anyway?" "Your son," he answered. The security company had called her son in Paris to let him know the alarm was going off in his mother's house. It seems that due to the recent storms in the area, homeowners are forgetting to inform the security companies that contractors are working. +++ Times have changed - - fifty years ago to day Firestone Super Champion wide tread tires were on sale for $13.35 at the Firestone Store located at 201 W.
