George, Borders elected to KISD board, Positions 1 and 2
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN
By LESTER MURRAY news2@kilgorenewsherald.com

After Jody Clements, KISD superintendent (left) announced the results of the KISD election on Saturday, Terry George (above, left) and Dereck Borders congratulated each other on their victory and looked forward to working with each other on the board.
Kilgore Independent School District board of trustees election results are in and Terry George and Dereck Borders will be filling Position 1 and Position 2.

Unofficial results were announced at 7:15 p.m. Saturday by Superintendent Jody Clements at Kilgore City Hall.

In the race for Position 1, Borders received 471 votes and David Hedrick received 293 votes. In voting for Position 2, incumbent George received 449 votes and Dale Henley received 314 votes.

Karen Custer, voting clerk for the City of Kilgore, said 15 votes still had to be verified. In light of the margin, though, the numbers will have no affect on the outcome of the election.

Clements said George and Borders will be sworn in at the May 27 KISD board meeting. That meeting will be George Faber's final meeting as a board member.

With Fabear's decision not to seek re-election and Borders' election, the board's face is changing in terms of senior members on the board. Brian Cole, Janet Marley and Mark Dickey and now Borders have all served three or fewer years on the board.

George, with his re-election, continues on the board with 17 years of experience. The two remaining senior board members, Guy Hargrave and Howard Stephens, both have been on the KISD board for many years.

Early voting for position 1 saw 354 ballots cast with 409 votes on election day. In voting for Position 2, 353 early ballots were cast and 411 voters cast ballots on election day.

George, Borders and Hedrick were all present when Clements announced the results and congratulated each other on the outcome. Henley was not present.
