Alcohol involved in MLMS teachers death
Kathryn Martinez News1@kilgorenewsherald.com

The Longview man police say is responsible for the death of Shannon Utzman Gilley two weeks ago, has been arrested and arraigned on charges of intoxicated manslaughter, after toxicology tests revealed that alcohol was a factor in motorcycle/ pickup collision on FM 349.

According to Ronnie Moore, Kilgore Director of Public Safety, Robertson's exact blood alcohol level has not been released by DPS officials. However, results showed that Robertson's blood alcohol level did exceed .08, the legal blood alcohol level.

"We submitted a blood sample Robertson gave voluntarily at the scene of the accident, to DPS for alcohol analysis," Moore said. "The blood was then submitted to a private forensics analysis company, which will reveal any over-thecounter or illicit drugs that may have been in Robertson's system at the time of the accident."

Moore said KPD expects to receive written documentation of the exact blood alcohol level from DPS in the coming week. The forensic analysis for other drugs may take as long as three more weeks.

Tony Stone, detective with Kilgore Police Department, and Roman Roberts, KPD lieutenant, made the arrest early Friday at Trinity Industries, where Kerry Richard Robinson was employed.

Robertson was brought to Kilgore for further interviews and then, was arraigned by Patsy Haynes, Kilgore city judge, who set bail at $100,000.

Robertson had not posted bail at press time. He remains in custody at Gregg County Jail.

For now, Kilgore officials are working to finish an accident reconstruction report and eager to hear news from the set of toxicology screenings.

"From that point the department will be able to finish this investigation," Moore said.

Robertson was driving a pickup on FM 349 on Saturday, April 19, when he reportedly turned left in front of a 2008 motorcycle driven by Shane Gilley. Shannon Gilley was a passenger on that motorcycle.

Services for 38-year-old school teacher Shannon Gilley were April 23.

Shane Gilley has been transferred to Baylor Hospital in Dallas where medical treatment is ongoing for his multiple injuries.
