Council takes on work session City council meets Tuesday for an off-week work session to discuss annexation plans, rezoning, hotel occupancy tax, and the comprehensive and strategic plans. Carol Windham, director of planning and zoning, said the council is slated to discuss implementation of first-year comprehensive plan goals. Jeff Howell, city manager, said council needs to review the comprehensive and strategic plans so staff is able to write objectives. "We are already finishing up some projects," Howell said. "We need direction." As far as annexation goes, Windham said council needs to decide where it wants to go. "We need to find out if council is interested in simply filling in the gaps or moving the bounds of the city outward," Windham said. Rezoning, Windham said, is becoming an important issue in many neighborhoods where redevelopment has begun. Windham said one neighborhood of interest in the Pentecost addition, where many mobile homes are placed in areas where families are beginning to build homes. Howell will also discuss implementation of a Hotel Tax Advisory Board which would direct the spending of these funds, if council is interested. The council worksession begins 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 6 at Kilgore City Hall in Council Chambers. |
