Farmers market coming to Kilgore Another façade grant was approved last night by Kilgore's Main Street Advisory Board, bringing downtown improvements to $70,950, with a Main Street match contribution of half that amount. Johnny Wade, owner of the cunningham Jewelry building at the corner of Kilgore Street and North Street, was awarded $5,521 match toward improvements to the building. Wade intends to repaint the exterior, remove bars from the windows, replace windows, put in a new front door, repair brick mortar, move gutters to the back of the building and add an awning. Colors for the building were selected by Zane Bergeron, of the Shops at 205. Colors are varying shades of tan, with a black awning. Main Street has $4,525 remaining for use toward another façade improvement grant. "It is wonderful that we have changed the face of downtown Kilgore with so many façade improvement match grants," Fallon Burns, Main Street manager, said. "I am so proud that our board has had the opportunity to make all of this happen." Burns reported the success of recent downtown merchant meetings, the latest public forum and her speaking engagement at the annual Kilgore Improvement Beautification Association banquet. Kilgore welcomes a Farmers Market to town beginning June 7. So far 13 vendors have signed on for the season-long event. Location is yet to be determined. In other Main Street business, the Main Street program logo was approved and will go to council for approval on May 13. |
