The Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Members of the John Tilley Edwards Chapter of the Daughters of The Republic of Texas held their April 16, 2008 meeting at Johnny Cace's Restaurant. Prior to the meeting, a memorial service was held for Mrs. Roberta Hutchison Wren at Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Kay Hilburn, chaplain, gave the invocation; Dolores Crissup, Mrs. Wren's daughter, read the scripture; and Patricia Potts gave a biographical sketch of her mother. Mr. Lanny Wren, her son, unveiled the memorial marker. Another event f the chapter in February was the awards certificates given to every student from St. Mary's Catholic Church and home-schooled children who are in the seventh and fourth grades. They wrote essays on "The Rangers of Texas" and "The Austins of Texas." In May there will be a state convention in Tyler, Texas with members from the entire state attending.
