Local Alpha Delta Kappa Members attend district meeting Five members of the Alpha Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa International Sorority for Women Educators recently attended the District V Spring Meeting in Marshall on Saturday, April 5. "A Bear-y Special Day" was the theme selected by the hosting Gamma chapter. Bears decorated the tables and the room. There were approximately 45 members in attendance, including International President Ann Hudson from Sulphur Springs, and State President Carol Kovach and Membership Vice President Connie Hetzer. District V President Sharon Noblit of Marshall opened the Council and General Meetings. The District V Council consists of District V Officers, as well as the Chapter Presidents, President-elects, and Immediate Past-Presidents. The District V Council elected the District V Officers for 2008 - 2010. District Secretary will be Kilgore's Teresa Anderson and District Treasurer will continue to be Jennifer Utzman also of Kilgore. Gamma President-Elect Diana West welcomed members to Marshall and thanked her chapter members for their help preparing for the meeting. District V President Sharon Noblit, a Gamma member, made introductions and used singing bears to bring inspiration to those in attendance. Current District V Chaplain Tabbatha Higginbotham from Kilgore shared the Thought for the Day at the General Meeting. At roll call, Alpha Rho had five in attendance: Tabbatha Higginbotham, Jennifer Utzman, Teresa Anderson, Betty Fowler, and Glynette Ford. Upon the conclusion of business, State Officers lead various Officer Training Workshops. State Corresponding Secretary Betty Fowler, a Kilgore member, facilitated the training of Recording and Corresponding Secretaries, as well as Reporters. After workshops prayer was lead by District V Chaplain Tabbatha Higginbotham, followed by a luncheon of chicken spaghetti, salad, bread, and cake. Afternoon entertainment was provided by three members of the Marshall High School Chorale. Each soloist sang a song from a Broadway musical. International President Ann Hudson, assisted by State President Carol Kovach, installed the District V Officers for 2008- 2010 using the theme of "Violets and Pearls". Anita Neeley of Longview's Theta Chapter invited District V members to attend the next Fall Meeting at the First Methodist Church in Longview. Gifts of Appreciation were given to various out-going officers. Raffle prizes were awarded as well. Over $300 was raised -- half the money will be distributed to the Gamma Scholarship Fund and half to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The meeting then concluded with the singing of the sorority song. |
