The "Two Pennies" preform at Kilgore Senior Citizens The Kilgore Senior Citizens met Wednesday, April 9, in the Lions Club building. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Red Fleming gave the opening prayer. Cora holt was present to take blood pressures. The program was given by "The Two Pennies" who are Norma and Charles Penny from Big Sandy. Norma played the electric key board and Charles the guitar, while singing good ol' country songs, such as "Because", "South of the Border", "If Bubba Can Do It", and "Ya'll Come". It was an enjoyable program. Two birthdays were announced, Dean Frymier and Francis Lenning, "Happy Birthday was song to both. There were three visitors to the meeting, Dean Frymier and Penny and Charles Penny. Three people joined the club, Faye and Harvey Rollins and Martha Smith. There was a total of thirty-nine that enjoyed a covered dish luncheon. The Sunshine Lady gave her report. Lois Rogers has shown a slight improvement and Helen Fette is doing very well. Ray Wood isn't feeling well, Cetrue Linahan is getting better and Marquerite Lessley is better. Cards were sent to Lois Rogers, Paul Spear, Shari Butler and Helen Fette. The Secretary's report was given and approved as read. There was no treasurer's report. Joyce Riddles made the motion to increase the donation that is given to people that come a distance to present the program by $10. Martha Keenon seconded it. Motion passed. Ray Drost told of a Patrolman who pulled over a car after seeing it swerve all over the highway. When asked what was in the bottle, the driver insisted time after time that it was water. After the officer saw and smelled the contents, he told the driver "it's not water, it's wine." The driver loudly proclaimed, "Jesus has done it again." Vivian Patton remarked how nice it was to be able to meet together, contented and relaxed and enjoying everyone. She told of watching an older movie on TV one night in the early hours. It was named, "Dinner at Eight" starring Marie Dressler, Billie Burke and Jean Harlow. That sure brought back memories. David Parker and Margie Charpin won the door prizes. President Betty Closed the meeting with prayer at 12:50. |
