KILGOROUND
BILL WOODALL

NEWS YOU likely can't use, but which is interesting nonetheless:

PRODUCTION of ethanol sufficient to fill a sport utility vehicle requires enough corn to feed a person for a year, according to a commodities analyst discussing the increasing price of grain.

IN THE newspaper business, probably in your business too, we visit with a startling array of people employed in a wide assortment of jobs. Most of those people, even those who enjoy their work, seem to approach their jobs as if they are just that - jobs to be tended several days a week except when on vacation or sick leave.

BUT from time to time we meet people who appear to have found their calling - job that gives them genuine happiness.

AT LEAST two of the latter type are working in Kilgore today.

ED Finley, the pastor at Leverett's Chapel Baptist Church, may be the hap-

piest person we've ever met. If you want to see Ed smile, just mention his congregation.

AND Susie Prater either genuinely loves helping people or she's just remarkably cheerful.

WE'VE known Susie now in three different "jobs" but all were essentially the same - her job is helping people. We met her when she was the coordinator of volunteers at the Community Crisis Center, followed her to Presbyterian Children's Services and we've watched her settle into her new project as director of Helping Hands.

ALL of us should find occupations that make us as happy as Ed's and Susie's seem to have made them.

PERHAPS not coincidentally, both their jobs involve service to their community and their neighbors.
