Gloria Calaway Barnes

Gloria Calaway Barnes passed from this life peacefully on April 15, 2008. Gloria was born on February 3, 1913 to Francesca Migliolo Gonzalez and Julio Gonzalez in Aldama, Tamaulipas. She will be best remembered for her love and giving nature to family, friends and the poor.

She moved to Texas as a child and graduated from McAllen high school and later married and moved to East Texas where she lived for many years with her first husband Coy Calaway.

After Coy's retirement they moved to McAllen to be close to her mother and she built a business "Calaway floral supplies". After Coy's death she remarried to George Barnes.

Gloria leaves behind a daughter Celia McBride (Paul) from Oklahoma; Raymond Calaway (Patricia) from Tampico, Mexico; and a stepdaughter, Edo Mae Spicer from Kerrville, Texas; her sister, Alice Braun of Houston, Texas; Calaway grandchildren, Billy McBride (Imam), Randy McBride (Margaret); Barnes grandchildren, Claudia Downey and the late Bart Schreyer; of special mention, she leaves behind her nieces and nephews Gloria Bauernfeind (Kurt) of Bulverde, Texas; Gloria Salinas Garza (Jaime) of Houston, Texas; Jorge Luis Gonzalez (Irene) of Houston, Texas; and Luis Gonzalez of McAllen Texas. She leaves many grand nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.

Gloria's family was the focus of her life. Many a fond memory is had by all in the family who attended her celebrations. Our thanks to the Biltmore assisted living for their exceptional care, and to Billy Cadena who stayed by her side in her later years.

The Rosary will be held at 7 PM on Friday, April 18th at Kreidler Funeral Home on N. 10th St. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in McAllen.
