City offers downed trees in Meadowbrook Park to public After high winds took down several large hardwood trees in Kilgore's Meadowbrook Park, city officials were left to decide the best method of clean up. Mike Green, Kilgore director of special services, said the best way to get the trees out of the park is to let the public come in and remove the trees for firewood. In order to take advantage of the opportunity interested parties must contact Green or Karen Custer, city clerk, to sign a release form, before attempting to clear any trees. "Several hardwood trees fell in Meadowbrook Park and the best clean-up solution is to let the public cut the trees for much-needed firewood," Green said. "This should work out to be a win-win situation for the city and those who take part in this opportunity." The city has not formally looked into clean-up services, but Green the city will save about $2,000 in clean-up costs. Firewood could cost consumers between $125 and $175 per cord. |
