FM 349 construction one step closer The long-awaited road construction on FM 349 at Synergy Park has progressed one step closer. According to Amanda Nobles, executive director Kilgore Economic Development Corporation, Texas Department of Transportation only lacks final approval of the plan by Gregg County commissioners. "This infrastructure expansion is important and necessary for new and expanded business enterprises," Nobles said. The previously delayed project was expedited through the efforts of Bill Stoudt, Gregg County judge and Bob Barbee, Gregg County Pct. 3 commissioner. "Judge Stoudt and Commissioner Barbee really stepped up to the plate for us on this deal and encouraged TxDOT to participate in this project," Bobby Beane, KEDC board vice-president, said. According to Nobles the project should be an even three-way split between TxDOT, KEDC and the county. Gregg County has pledged $172,530 in equipment and labor; TxDOT promised approximately $140,784; and, KEDC has set aside another $170,00, to cover labor and equipment and subcontractors, not provided by the county or state. Other topics brought up during the regularly-scheduled board meeting, last night, included some discussion on Elder Lake Road. Nobles said the final sub-division plat may have to go before city council, but the extension project has received its final approval from Tim Hobbs, city street superintendent and David Hackley, utilities superintendent. In other business, KEDC can plan on seeing BUCYRUS Inc. move ahead with Industrial Revenue Bonds totaling $8 million to $10 million, in June. Nobles said the board will have to discuss application fees and closing costs with the North Kilgore Industrial Park business at a future meeting. Noble Security, working to secure Synergy Park, has informed KEDC that prices are set for an increase, because of the rise in gas prices. KEDC board also discussed repairs to the parking lot at the former Kennedy Gourmet building, in Kilgore Industrial Park. Nobles said the corporation received two bids from local contractors K-K Mobbs and McMinnon. The contract will go to McKinnon, the lowest bidder, who will place six inches of limestone and two inches of asphalt on the north parking area and six-inch concrete on the south lot, as well as filling in pot holes in other areas. |
