KILGORE High School's Hi-Steppers spring show is at Dodson Auditorium Saturday evening April 19 at 7 p.m. GET tickets in advance at KHS or at Expressions or, if you prefer, from a Hi-Stepper for $8 each. Tickets are $10 if you wait and buy them at the door. THE theme is Glamorous. Wouldn't that be considered redundant? +++ GEESE are not polite. And once you have a goose, you've pretty much got that goose until it dies or you get really, really hungry. WE have a friend that has a goose in her backyard. When Goose is irritated - that seems like most of the time - he stands about 40 inches tall. I'd guess, from looking at Goose, that he weighs about 30 pounds but that's only a guess because I'm not hefting an irritated goose. Even one that lives in a friend's back yard and has a name, Goose. OUR friend didn't particularly want the goose but her husband brought it home when it was much, much smaller. He thought it would be good company for the two ducks that also lived in their back yard. BUT a neighbor's dog got the ducks while Goose wasn't paying attention and Goose got even grouchier, hard as that is to imagine. He honks like the freight train that wakes you in the middle of the night -- loudly and pretty much without end. +++ SO our friend decided to get rid of Goose. She bundled goose into the family van and trundled him out to Synergy Park, thinking that he'd be comfortable out there with water and all the bugs he could eat. WE explained to her, after the fact, that there are surveillance cameras scattered around Synergy Park and that KEDC and other involved property owners probably don't want people dropping their pets at the park, even geese. WE only told her that, we said, because we'd not want to see her arrested for disposing of a goose improperly. +++ SHE and her two children, aged two and something less than one, went back to Synergy Park, tracked down Goose and bribed him with snacks, leading him back toward the van. Eventually she wrestled him into the van and closed the door. "I brought him out yesterday to play with the ducks and then couldn't get him to come back to the van," she explained to the couple who watched in disbelief. +++ GOOSE is safely home and still irked. Our friends did not get arrested. And she's still looking for a way to get rid of the goose. Legally, and without plucking feathers. +++ AND, finally, this: Leverett's Chapel ISD is accepting nominations for the gifted and talented program until April 18. Parents of gifted students should pick up an application form at the elementary school office. +++ HAPPY birthday today, if you're reading this on Sunday, to Amanda Jackson, Lauren O'Quinn, Winston Gardner, Kim Nelson, Peggy Hierholzer, Terry Allen, Steve Allen, J.B.
