The Sabine High School Lady Cardinals scored three runs in the first inning, finished with nine hits and more importantly, beat Mineola on Tuesday, 4-1.

Sabine (11-11 overall) broke a two-game losing streak with the win. The Lady Cardinals, coached by Sarah Ricks-Creech, have an open date Friday and are back in action on Tuesday at Spring Hill. That's the next-to-last game of the regular season, as it ends next Friday at home against Gladewater. Sabine is one of a host of teams in the middle of the District 15-3A playoff hunt.

Pitcher Sandy James threw a complete game, seven innings, and struck out 12. She walked just three, and allowed four hits.

Cassie Headley, Lindsey Bryce, catcher Alex Easley, and Janell DeFreece each had two hits. James had a hit, as well. Easley and DeFreece each finished with 2 RBI.

Also, Sabine's baseball team picked up its second win of the district schedule, beating Mineola, 3-2.

Thanks to Terri James for providing statistics for this story.
