KHS doing well in 12-4A tournament One might say that the Kilgore High School tennis team did well on Tuesday, the first day of the District 12-4A tennis tournament, being played at several different sites in Jacksonville. Kilgore players have reached the finals in three of the five divisions, and will play in those finals today. "We had a pretty good Tuesday," coach Jason Maroney said. "We're in the finals in three of the five events, and in the third-place match of the other two. ...That means we still have a shot at going to regionals in all five events." Any playbacks will be played today, Maroney noted. In girls singles play, Kilgore's top player, Haley Smith, reached the finals and was to face Henderson's Madison Phenix today. Callie Cunyus and Trevar Compton are in the mixed doubles final, and are to play Nacogdoches' David Ballenger and Lucinda Fernandez. In boys doubles, Kilgore's Jody Madding and Josh Bailey are in the finals, taking on Jacksonville's Boone Hugghins and Dylan Hanna. Also for Kilgore, the team of Brittany Conner and Emily Mitis are in the third-place match today, and Josh Way of KHS is also in a third-place match, taking on Whitehouse's Maurice Laperriere. + |
