Easter parade at Kilgore Seniors Club

The Kilgore Senior Citizens met Wednesday, March 24 in the Lions building at 307 Rusk St. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Roy Tucker gave the opening prayer.

Martha Smith played selections on the piano including the "Easter Parade" during the Easter Bonnet Parade. All contestants paraded around the room to the music, to be judged. The winners were Joyce Riddles for the prettiest hat, which was large rimmed hat covered with Easter menagerie of rabbits, chicks, ribbon and lace. The most unusual hat was worn by Solita Tucker who also wore a large brimmed straw hat, only hers was covered with a concoction of springs, springing out from all over. The winners each were presented with an Easter Egg bag filled with assorted items. Congratulations to Joyce and Solita.

Roy Tucker was the one to have a birthday was sung "Happy Birthday".

There were five visitors to the group and they were, Martha Smith, Katlyn Dunn, Barbara Lear and Harvey and Faye Rollins. Also a new member, Sissy Moss. They all joined in to make thirty-nine to enjoy the delicious covered dish luncheon.

Jaunita Riey announced that Lois Rogers has suffered a stroke, Paul Spears is very ill and Dovice Ammons has had surgery. President Betty read a Thank You from Lawerance and Ian Guess and family.

The Secretaries report was read and approved as correct. The Treasurers report also read by the Secretary and approved as read.

The Sunshine Lady gave her report, Happy Cards were sent to Monetta Noble and Dovie Ammons. She also asked everyone to remember Lois Rogers, Dovie Ammons and Paul Spears in their prayers.

President Betty asked for a report from the nominating committee for a new Treasurer. Flo Francis said that Bettie Warlick had agreed to take it. Flo also reported her knowledge of the New Rebate from Income Tax. Others joined in on what they had done and had been told.

Doratha Faulkner and Dorothy Heiberman won the door prizes.

President Betty closed the meeting with a prayer at 1:10 p.m.
