MLMS teacher assaulted by student In an incident that occurred at Maude Laird Middle School an altercation between a sixth grade student and a teacher resulted in a suspension. Principal Jody Sanders, MLMS said the incident occurred in a physical education class taught by Coach Ginger Hale. Sanders said the student, a sixth grade male pushed Hale and the Kilgore Police Officers who are assigned to the Kilgore Independent School District were called. Sanders said the boy was issued a citation suspended for three days and will finish out the school year at Elder School. Jody Clements, superintendent at KISD said under normal conditions when a teacher is assaulted, the student would be expelled, but under current Texas law, since the student was a special education student, he could not be expelled. Clements said however it is our responsibility to take care of our teachers and insure the safety of the classroom, so the student is suspended and will finish his school year at Elder School. Clements said Hale was not injured in the incident, she was just pushed by the student. |
