It's Boys and Girls Club week
PROCLAMATION TIME

"The young people of Kilgore are tomorrow's leaders," Joe Parker, Kilgore mayor, read. "Many such young people need professional youth services to help them cope with a wide range of social and financial hardships."

Parker visited Kilgore Boys & Girls Club to proclaim this week Boys and Girls Club Week.

The proclamation reads that Boys & Girls clubs are at the forefront of efforts in substance abuse prevention, delinquency prevention, literacy programs, character and leadership development programs, creative arts programs, and health and life skills programs.

The proclamation also lists the Boys & Girls Club organizations in Texas help ensure that young people keep off the streets, offering them a safe and supportive place to go and providing them with quality programs.

Further the proclamation calls on all residents to join with the city in recognizing and commending Boys & Girls Club organizations for providing comprehensive, effective services to young people.

The Boys & Girls Club of Kilgore celebrates National Boys & Girls Club Week, 2008 along with some 4,000 Clubs and more than 4.5 million young people nationwide

Ronnie Spradlin, city councilman and Boys and Girls Club council president, was also present at the ceremony, along with many children, Boys & Girls Club Staff and David Stiewe, unit director.
