KHS golfers in fourth after day 1 Coach Jimmy Williams' Kilgore High School boys golf team is in fourth place in the District 12-4A golf tournament, just one stroke, though, out of third. Kilgore shot a one-day 340 at Pine Dunes Golf Club in Frankston, one shot behind Henderson. Pine Tree's Blue team leads the tournament, however, with a very good score of 316 after just one day. The closest competitor to the Pirates is Nacogdoches, and Nac is 27 strokes back (a 333). "We really had our chances today, and didn't get it done," Williams said. "That's very disappointing to our kids. The good news is, though, that we're only seven shots out of second." The teams take the week off, then play the second and final round next Tuesday at Crooked Hollow in Greenwood, La. Rounding out the field: Hallsville is in fifth place after a day, a 343. Jacksonville shot a 348 on day one, and Marshall winds it up. The Mavericks shot a 402. In the race for medalist (top individual in the tournament), Kilgore's Chance Fitch is in a tie for third with Henderson's Hunter Skelton (each shot a 77 on Monday). Fitch and Skelton are just two strokes out of first - Pine Tree's Michael Stuckey shot a 75. Also for Kilgore, Zack Mays shot an 81; Cameron Clower shot an 88; Jacob Patterson shot a 94; and Zach Zimmerman a 97. The first round for the girls district tournament, which will include the KHS girls, was to begin this morning, played at Crooked Hollow. Williams also coaches the KHS girls. |
