Diamond 'Dogs try to get back on track tonight Let's hope things go better for the Kilgore High School baseball team tonight at Marshall than they went at home on Saturday against Henderson. Playing the game a day later at the request of Henderson coach Sonny Simmons (who said much of his team was enrolled in an ag competition elsewhere), Kilgore looked like the team trying to get back into the playoff hunt and Henderson looked like the team near the top of the standings, instead of the other way around. Henderson's Weldon Davis held the Bulldogs to just three hits and run-ruled Kilgore in five innings, 15-3. As a result, the Bulldogs fell to 9-7 overall, 3-3 in District 12-4A, and out of the thirdplace tie with Marshall in the district standings. Kilgore would move back into a tie with the Mavericks for third place, if the Bulldogs can win at Marshall tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Maverick Field. Against Henderson on Saturday at Driller Park, Kilgore defensive mistakes and an inability to create offense doomed the Bulldogs. The Lions scored four runs in the top of the second inning, then six in the top of the fourth to blow the game open. Kilgore's first hit was a fourthinning single by Xavian Sanders, who scored on an error later in the inning, after Chris Dudley, who had walked, scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Sharp. Andrew Ector led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, then scored on a single two batters later by Dudley. By that time, though, Kilgore was out of the game. Trace DeBerry took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs. Also facing Marshall tonight will be the KHS softball team. The Lady Bulldogs will host Marshall tonight, a 6 p.m. varsity only night at Stream-Flo Field. Kilgore (4-15 overall, 0-8 in district play) was originally scheduled to visit Marshall tonight, but that changed when the Lady Mavericks got to play the first game between the teams at their place due to weather in March. |
