KPD will investigate reported beating
By KATHRYN MARTINEZ news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

An incident reported to Kilgore Police Department as an attempted car-jacking Saturday morning is under investigation by the department.

Ronnie Moore, director of public safety, denies that the incident was a car-jacking, but confirms there was an assault outside of a vehicle in the 100 block of Lantrip Street while a child witnessed the altercation from the back seat.

A caller to the newspaper, who watched the incident from ta nearby parking lot, said a man dragged the woman from the car and was "beating the fire out of her."

Kilgore Police would not identify the woman who may or may not have been assaulted; nor would the department identify the man who may or may not have assaulted her. Further, Kilgore Police would not identify the man who may or may not have broken the victim's mobile phone when she was reportedly calling for police assistance.

According to Randy Hancock, investigations captain, the incident remains under investigation. Hancock said the investigation was turned over to Vance Callahan, investigator, but Callahan as of Tuesday morning had not yet made contact with either party reportedly involved.

Hancock said Callahan aims to interview the subjects and determine their relationship and what - if any - charges are to be filed.
