IT WAS AN ILL WIND
The storm which blew through Kilgore Saturday evening dropped almost five inches of rain and a thick layer of dime-sized hail. It also left Kilgore in shambles with trees down, awnings tipped over and much of the city without power. As late as Tuesday morning, Kilgore area homes near Laird Hill were still without electricity. City crews worked through the weekend and were laboring still today to clean up debris left by winds estimated at 70 miles per hour. Above, a tree all but destroyed a house on Higginbotham. At right, the Shell Station on Hwy. 259 lost its awning for the second time in recent years. Many of the businesses along Kilgore and Main streets suffered water damage and Waldon's Grocery on Hwy. 42 suffered extensive damage.
