New TCL team to announce nickname tomorrow

      It took 58 years after the departure of the Kilgore Drillers for a baseball franchise to return to Driller Park. In the ensuing two months, fans from across East Texas submitted suggestions for the new team's name, then anxiously waited for even a hint about the moniker.

      Coach Jimmy Williams' Kilgore High School boys golf team is in fourth place in the District 12-4A golf tournament, just one stroke, though, out of third. Varsity, JV teams do well in tourneys

      The district tournament is fast approaching for the Kilgore High School varsity tennis program, and in fact, the junior varsity team was to begin their district tournament today. Both got in good work over the last week in tournaments at Corsicana and Tyler, coach Jason Maroney said.

      SEATTLE (AP) - After Erik Bedard left his Mariners' debut, the Seattle offense woke up. Adrian Beltre hit a go-ahead groundout in the sixth inning, Jose Lopez had a two-run double in the seventh and the Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 in Monday's opener.
