The misery was prolonged a little bit for the Kilgore High School softball team, which lost at home to Henderson, 13-0, on Friday night here at Stream-Flo Field.
The Lady Bulldogs almost got out of the first inning without allowing a run, but with two outs and a strike on her, Henderson's Marissa Yarborough smacked a shot over the leftfield fence. Kilgore's Gena Andrews tried to make a catch, but it was over her head for a tworun home run.
Kilgore never led, as the Lady Lions added three runs in the third, three more in the top of the fourth, and five in the top of the fifth to eventually get a runrule victory. That game began the second round of District 12- 4A play for Kilgore (4-15 overall, 0-8 in district play), with the young Lady 'Dogs still seeking their first district win.
Second-year coach Cassie Newell has been forced to change her lineup quite a bit over the course of the season, and several freshmen and sophomores are playing for Kilgore. Jalissa Baggett played at catcher on Friday, with regular catcher Alyssa McKinney playing shortstop.
Kilgore was held to just three hits: Brianna Sanders had one in the bottom of the first; freshman Skye Wyatt had another, and Baggett added one in the bottom of the fourth. Kilgore had its chances, but couldn't plate the runners.
KHS will host Marshall on Tuesday, a 4:30 p.m. junior varsity start, and will host Whitehouse on Friday.
