Lady Cards beat Gladewater The Sabine High School Lady Cardinals picked up their fourth win of the District 15- 3A schedule on Friday night, beating Gladewater (in Gladewater), 12-4 to stay at the top of the heap in the district. Sabine (9-10 overall, 4-1 in district play) scored three runs in the top of the first, wound up taking a 7-0 lead and that proved to be too much for the Lady Bears (although Gladewater did get four runs in the bottom of the fifth). Sabine's Cassie Headley, Jannell DeFreece and Sandy James both went 3-for-5 - James had three doubles, and 3 RBI, and Headley and De- Freece each had three singles. Lindsey Bryce went 3-for-4, all singles, with an RBI. Chelsea Headley went 2-for-5 and had an RBI. Hayley Hayes went 1-for-4, with 2 RBI. Alex Easley and Carly Horwath both went 1-for-3 - Easley had an RBI. Kate Willoughby went 1-for-2 and had an RBI, as well. James picked up the win on the mound. She's 9-8 on the season. She pitched all seven innings, struck out 11, walked one and allowed just one earned run. Gladewater committed seven errors; Sabine committed three. This week, Sabine hosts White Oak (Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m., beginning with junior varsity), and visits Gilmer Friday. Special thanks to Terri James for her help with statistics for this story. |
