KC employee named Counselor of the Year by PWCA

MICHAEL TURPIN
Dr. Michael Turpin, Kilgore College staffer and UT-Tyler adjunct lecturer in the Departments of Psychology and Human Resource Development & Technology has been named Counselor of the Year by the Piney Woods Counseling Association (PWCA).

He will vye for the "Texas Counselor of the Year Award" to be selected by the Texas Counseling Association (TCA).

Dr. Turpin's professional, academic, and leadership honors are numerous. He has served Kilgore College as Coordinator of Counseling and Advising, as supervisor of the Student Counseling and Testing Center, and as counselor and academic advisor since 1993. He also serves as dean of Institutional Planning, Supervisor - Office of Research and Institutional Effectiveness, Supervisor and Campus Liason for SACS Commission on Colleges, and Director of SACS Institutional Self Study (1995-99). He also serves as Director of Student Services (2005-present), including Registrar's Office, Financial Aid, and International Student Office.

A formally trained counselor, Dr. Turpin is a graduate of UTT yler's Psychology/Counseling Master's program and a post graduate of Texas A&M University, College Station, in May 2003.

The award was presented March 26, at UT-Tyler at the year's final meeting of PWCA.
