KHS-Henderson baseball game moved to Saturday
Tonight's softball game still on
By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

Turns out there will be just one game tonight at the park between Kilgore High School and Henderson.

Henderson's coaching staff asked KHS baseball coach Jeff Blackstone to move the game - originally scheduled for tonight at Driller Park - to Saturday, because several members of the Henderson baseball team have an ag competition. Blackstone agreed, so the District 12-4A rivals will play on Saturday at noon, still at Driller.

The Bulldogs (9-6 overall, and 3-2 in 12-4A play) are currently in third place in the district standings, as the first round of district play is approaching its end. The Diamond 'Dogs conclude the first round at Marshall on Tuesday (potentially a huge game, depending upon Saturday's result), and will be home Friday to open the second round against Whitehouse.

The Kilgore High School softball team actually has a busy weekend. The Lady Bulldogs will host Henderson tonight as scheduled, a 4:30 p.m. junior varsity start, varsity afterward. The KHS JV team has its district tournament in Henderson on Saturday, if weather permits.

Tonight's game against the Lady Lions opens the second round of district play for the girls. Kilgore is 4-14 overall, and is 0-7 in district competition. Last year, the Lady 'Dogs had a bad first round, then went 4-3 in the second round of district play. Second-year head coach Cassie Newell is likely hoping for a similar result this season.
