The best reaction to the day's bout of foolery was - hands down - Valerie Melton, ad director, who shrieked louder than any city emergency siren any of us have ever heard. +++ Spring Break flew by like no tomorrow and summer is fast approaching, so we'd best enjoy these beautiful days while we can. Days of soaking up the rays and smiling as we do so will soon be replaced by perspiration and grimaces. I am sure to be thankful for the four-ton unit that cools my home. +++ Kilgore Boys Baseball Association plays in the Luke Lollie Tournament, to raise scholarship funds for baseball playing Kilgore seniors. I personally will be attending three games as Bryan Johnston and his team the Cubs (which happens to include my baby boy) take the field. Nothing says summer's coming better than baseball. +++ On this day in: 1834 - The United States Senate censures President Andrew Jackson for his actions in defunding the Second Bank of the United States; 1930 - Constantinople and Angora changed their names to Istanbul and Ankara; and in 1979 - in Pennsylvania, a pump in the reactor cooling system fails in the Three Mile Island accident, resulting in the evaporation of some contaminated water and leading to a nuclear meltdown. +++ Born on this day in: 1793 - Henry Schoolcraft, American geographer and geologist (d. 1864); 1836 - Frederick Pabst, American brewer (d. 1904); and in 1972 - Keith Tkachuk, American ice hockey player. Blowing out the candles locally are Kelly King, Debra Palmer, Jose Sanchez Jr., Bo Elder, Tammy Cubine, April Griffin, Elizabeth Barrett, Dorothy Waggoner, Barbara Ector, James D.
