TRACK & FIELD

KHS track back in action at Whitehouse tomorrow

The Kilgore High School track & field returns to the track on Thursday at Whitehouse High School.

Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m., and the 3200 meter run will begin at 3:45 - track events will begin around 5:45.

The Bulldogs' district meet was rescheduled, and postponed a week. Because of that, the track team has added a date. They'll be in action Mount Pleasant on Tuesday - varsity boys and girls. The District 12-4A meet, which was scheduled April 2 at, will now be April 8-9, still to be held at Hallsville High School. Regionals are at the University of North Texas in Denton on April 25-26, and the state track meet is at the University of Texas in Austin on May 9-10.

Kilgore track is coached by Phillip Lane (boys) and Kerry Strong (girls).

TENNIS

Kilgore JV plays Thursday, varsity this weekend

The Kilgore High School tennis team is hitting its stride as the spring season's close is nearing.

The junior varsity team plays in the Corsicana tournament on Thursday, and then the KHS varsity plays in a tournament at John Tyler High School on Friday and Saturday.

There was a quad match scheduled to be played here on April 3 - that's now a tri-match with Grace Community and Sulphur Springs. And then it's tournament time. The District 12-4A tournament for JV is slated for April 1 in Jacksonville, and the varsity's district tournament is also in Jacksonville, to be played April 8-9.

SOFTBALL

Tournament in Longview April 19

The Spring Fest Softball Tournament will be played Saturday, April 19 at the Hinsley Softball Complex in Longview (Highway 259 North at Hawkins Parkway).

This tournament is for ASA men's upper and lower classes. There is a $175 entry fee (per team). Deadline for registration is April 16. Each team will receive two ASA 325/44 balls at registration. There will be team awards for first, second and third place, and individual awards, as well.

GOLF

Hood Classic is Friday

Rockin' C Ranch has opened registration for its upcoming benefit golf tournament.

The fifth annual Dr. Robert Hood Memorial Golf Classic will be held this Friday at Garden Valley Golf Club, with proceeds going directly towards the various programs of the camp. Rockin' C Ranch is a Christian camp on a working ranch, and is committed to providing youth with a solid Christian foundation by giving them a memorable, faith and character-building camp experience. There are various levels of financial involvement for both individuals and corporations.

"This is a great opportunity to get out and have some fun while providing a great benefit to some deserving kids," said Matt Clapp, Rockin' C Ranch Director.

The event will begin with registration at 11:30 a.m. and a burger buffet followed by a shotgun start for the four-man scramble (1:30 p.m.). Prizes will be awarded for each member of the top three teams. In addition, there will be prizes for longest drive, straightest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one.

Golf-a-thon April 7

A golf-a-thon will be played here at Meadowbrook Country Club on Monday, April 7 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Participants will play 54 holes of best ball, with a triple bogey maximum on any hole played.

To enter, you provide a minimum donation of $500 to the American Cancer Society.

For the donation, your food and drink for the day will be provided, you'll get a Nike Dri-Fit shirt, your cart and green fees are included in that donation, and dinner and drinks at the end of the day.

Cash prizes for the low nine, the low 18, the low 36 and the low 54, based on handicap, will be given.
