By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

The Pine Tree Lady Pirates made on-the-field life a little more miserable for the Kilgore High School softball team on Thursday night.

Playing a day early due to spring break, the Lady Pirates run-ruled Kilgore, 13-1, in five innings, dropping the Lady 'Dogs to 0-6 in District 12-4A play this season. Kilgore ( 4 - 1 3 overall) is playing with probably the dist rict's youngest lineup, and has only played three times at home this season.

It was the first district win for PT, who also came into Thursday's game with an 0-5 mark in district play.

The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and never trailed. Kilgore scored its only run in the bottom of the third inning.

PT's Carmen Gadt went 3- for-4, notched 5 RBI and had a triple.

Meagan Youngblood took the loss for KHS, and Katy Beard was the winning pitcher of record for the Lady Pirates.

In junior varsity play, it was Kilgore with the win, an 11-1 victory.

Kilgore visits Hallsville on Tuesday night, a 4:30 p.m. JV start, then hosts Henderson on Friday. The game against Henderson will be the beginning of the second round of district competition for the Lady Bulldogs.
