Audit yields county nearly $15,000
By KATHRYN MARTINEZ news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

Gregg County commissioners received a one-time reimbursement of AT&T overages totaling nearly $15,000, after approving a telecommunications audit last year.

Commissioners heard a report in 2007 from Hubbard Communications Group about the benefits of the audit.

One year later the county approved payment to the communications firm in the amount of $17,182, after realizing a saving of $32,000 - with the overage check - by way of the Hubbard Group's efforts.

Commissioners also approved lease, with option to buy, of three dump trucks for Pct. 3. Laurie Waloszyn, county auditor, said this method of vehicle purchasing is an increasingly popular alternative that eliminates many maintenance costs.

In other business commissioners approved:

- a request from City of Longview for assistance by reimbursement for 2008 pavement management programs, in an amount not to exceed $300,000; and

- a donation of $5,000 from Forest Oil Corporation to the District Attorney's office, for use toward the prosecution of oilfield related thefts.
