American Cancer Society benefits from Fun Day

Bunny Duncan, EMT, has been with Champion Ambulance Service for four years and during this weekend's festivities at the Kilgore City Park her unit was conducting blood pressure checks. Duncan used a Med-Pak, which does far more then check blood pressure, but Laura Ziegler (right) was having only that done.
It was a Fun Day at Kilgore City Park on Saturday, hosted by the Kilgore Police Department, Kilgore Fire Department and Kilgore Municipal Courts.

Angela Burch, Kilgore Police Officer said the first time event was held as a fund raiser for Relay for Life-American Cancer Society.

Burch said a team called "Guns and Roses" was formed to get everything ready for this event. "Kyle Perkins, Josie Atchley, Robin Shaw and I were team captains and everyone worked hard to get ready for the event," said Burch.

Over $1700 was raised to be donated to the American Cancer Society. "I would like to thank Jeff Howell, city manage, Ronnie Moore, public safety director, Danny Downing, battalion chief, Andrew Daniels, battalion chief, Texas Department of Transportation, Danny Beets, Kilgore Police Association, Kil- gore Community House, Ebeth Chappell, Texas Department of Public Safety, First Baptist Church and all who donated in some way to make this event happen," said Burch.

She said she hopes this will become an annual event. "We had games for the kids, puppet shows, fire safety programs, finger printing and much more. The police department has drug contraband on display to show people how those were aiding the department."
