GLOBE Expo for Texas Scholars Area high school seniors will have an opportunity to speak to potential employers at the Greater Longview Organization for Business and Education (GLOBE) Career Expo at the Longview Fairgrounds Exhibit Building 9:30 - 11 a.m. April 2-3. Employers from around the region will be on hand to recruit potential employees from the 1,295 East Texas high school students scheduled to graduate as Texas Scholars -- students who have successfully completed the Texas Recommended High School Program. "Since many employers are facing the retirement of key individuals in the next few years, the GLOBE Career Expo gives business representatives an excellent chance to become acquainted with the top candidates in the future local workforce," said Fred Jennings, GLOBE co-chair. "We want the Texas Scholars to know about all kinds of jobs -- from public service to professional, from teaching to technical jobs." High schools bringing students include Gilmer, Gladewater, Hallsville, Harleton, Longview, New Diana, Pine Tree, Sabine, Spring Hill, Tatum, Union Hill and White Oak. GLOBE sponsors the Texas Scholars Program for 12 area school districts in collaboration with business and education to improve the regional workforce by helping parents and students understand the maximum value of the "K-12" experience. Over 60 percent of seniors from the districts associated with GLOBE graduate as Texas Scholars. "Our goal is to create awareness among high school seniors about the variety of careers available in our area," said Linda Buie, Longview High School dean of curriculum and cochair of GLOBE. "Students will learn about careers, the educational requirements, salaries, benefits and work environment expectations." Dr. Julie Fowler, KCLongview dean and GLOBE board member, said the expo will be a great opportunity for students to meet potential employers and for the college to promote KC Workforce Education - programs such as corrosion technology, petroleum technology, welding, nursing or refrigeration repair. "We offer a wide array of workforce education programs here at KC and we're excited about the possibility of recruiting quality high school students to our programs," Fowler said. "The expo will be a great opportunity to display what Kilgore College has to offer." Employers may participate by completing a registration form and submitting a $50 registration fee.
