The Kilgore Garden Club and Evergreen Garden Club hold joint meeting

Bonnie Hollway speaks at joint meeting of Kilgore Garden Club and Evergreen Garden Club
The Kilgore Garden Club met in joint meeting with the Evergreen Garden Club Thursday, March 6, at the First Christian Church Parlor. The Evergreen Club, as hostesses, served beautiful and delicious refreshments (more like a brunch).

Darlene Bingham of the Kilgore Club, introduced the speaker, Bonnie Hollway of Emeral Gardens. Ms. Hollowy is a Texas Master Certified Nursery Professional and is a member of "Keep Longview Beautiful!" Her talk covered all aspects of growing roses from watering, sunshine, fertilizer, and long lasting roses. Expanded shale seemed to be news to many as an additive to preparing the soil. Many kinds of roses were mentioned, from the kind grandmother had, till some being renewed and revised. One of the hardier kinds discussed was the "Earthkind Roses" which are resistant to pest and disease. It also blooms for a longer period of time.

Virginia Finkley, treasurer for the Kilgore Garden Club, asked that the members remember to pay dues of $25. at the April meeting, or before, by mailing your check to Virginia Finkley.
