LOCAL SPORTS IN BRIEF KHS teams at Nac on Friday Both the Kilgore High School baseball and softball teams will play at Nacogdoches High School on Friday night, as District 12-4A play continues. The Diamond 'Dogs, coached by Jeff Blackstone and Ronnie Lee Garvin, will play their second 12-4A game of this year's schedule - the first pitch at Nac is slated for 6 p.m. Kilgore (7-4 this season, 1-0 in 12-4A play) beat Whitehouse 6-1 on Tuesday to open the district schedule. Coach Ronnie Hendrix's Kilgore junior varsity baseball team hosts a JV district tournament this weekend at Driller Park (Whitehouse is also hosting a portion of the tournament). Kilgore plays at noon Friday against Hallsville, then faces Marshall at 2:30. Kilgore's varsity softball team, coached by Cassie Newell and Rhonda Fletcher, has a varsity only night against Nac, a 5 p.m. start. The Lady Dragons' program does not field a JV team. KHS is 4-11 this season, has played all but one game on the road, and is hoping to halt a three-game losing streak. The Lady 'Dogs are 0-3 in 12-4A so far. Both KHS diamond teams are home Tuesday night against Jacksonville - it's varsity-only at Stream-Flo Field and at Driller Park, and both games begin at 6. GOLF Golf-a-thon April 7 A golf-a-thon will be played here at Meadowbrook Country Club on Monday, April 7 to benefit the American Cancer Society. Participants will play 54 holes of best ball, with a triple bogey maximum on any hole played. To enter, you provide a minimum donation of $500 to the American Cancer Society. For the donation, your food and drink for the day will be provided, you'll get a Nike Dri-Fit shirt, your cart and green fees are included in that donation, and dinner and drinks at the end of the day.
