Kilgore's spring UT stars

shortstop) both play for the UT baseball team. By the way, the Longhorns are 10-4 overall right now and haven't yet started conference play. McCrory is hitting .333, has played in five games for UT, has an on-base percentage of .600, and a slugging percentage of .667. Whitmer is 1-0 this season on the mound. He's got an ERA (earned-run average) of 1.80 through 10 innings pitched. He's allowed seven hits, three runs (two earned), five walks and has 12 strikeouts. The Longhorns beat Rice, 9-1, in Houston on Monday, and host Kansas in a Big 12 battle this weekend, beginning with a 6:05 p.m. game Friday night.

McCrory is the son of Pat and Johnnie McCrory, and Whitmer is the son of Ted and Donna Whitmer, now of Nacogdoches.

• Shelby Savony plays softball for the 'Horns. She's a freshman, and has been lights-out. She's batting .342, in 19 games played (she's started 12 times). In 38 at-bats, she's got 13 hits, including three doubles and a home run. She has 6 RBI on the season, has walked three times, a slugging percentage of .500, and an on-base percentage of .390.

The softball Longhorns lost to North Carolina in a tournament in Hawaii last night, and were scheduled to face Texas Tech and Hawaii tonight, and Maine on Friday.

Shelby is the youngest daughter of Steve and Diana Schnarr.
