KC Wind Symphony will perform its first concert of the spring semester tonight at Dodson Auditorium.

The symphony, under the direction of band director Wayne Smith, will salute the memory of long-time KC benefactor, Mike Miller, who died Dec. 17.

"This concert is dedicated to him in gratitude for his support of the KC Band, both emotional and financial," Smith said.

Miller, a former Ranger band member, is probably best known for his philanthropic actions that directly benefited KC and Southern Methodist University. He endowed more than 18 scholarships to KC during his lifetime.

"Mike's generosity and support of the Kilgore College Band is too great to individually list," Smith said. "We are, therefore, making a music tribute to this wonderfully generous and gentle man.

KC percussion instructor, Kevin Ogilvie, will perform two movements of the Concertino for Marimba by Paul Creston, accompanied by the KC Wind Symphony. The concert will feature traditional and contemporary works. Admission is free.
