Tough road trip continues for KHS softball team
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
By MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

Things got a little bit worse for the Kilgore High School softball team on Tuesday night, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to 0-3 in District 12-4A play.

The road-weary KHS Lady 'Dogs haven't played a home game since their season opener Feb. 11, and have opened district play with three straight losses - at Henderson, at Marshall and at Whitehouse, the latest one on Tuesday. Whitehouse held Kilgore hitless on the night and won, 14-1.

"They batted around in the first inning, scoring five runs, all with two outs," KHS second-year head coach Cassie Newell said.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-11 overall) had four walks and reached on an error once. That led to Kilgore's only run of the game. Senior Shae Morgan reached on the 'E," then walked home when Alyssa McKinney drew a bases-loaded walk.

Kilgore plays at Nacogdoches on Friday, a varsity-only night that begins at 5 p.m. Nac is also 0-2, playing Pine Tree tonight, Newell said, in a makeup game.

KHS finally comes home Tuesday night, a 6 p.m. varsity-only night against Jacksonville.
