Burglars steal safe from liquor store

Shortly after 4 a.m. this morning, Sheriff Deputies responded to building alarm at 6951 Hwy 42 North. Deputies arrived within two minutes and discovered the front door had been pried open.

Initial investigation revealed that suspects took a free-standing safe from beneath a counter and carried it to a vehicle parked outside of the store. The safe contained an undisclosed amount of cash.

"This business was equipped with a video recording system which captured the break in," Lieutenant Mike Claxton said. "Investigators have reviewed the recording which shows three suspects entering into the business while another remained outside in what investigators believe is a dark colored SUV." After the safe was removed and carried to the front door, one of the suspects motioned for an outside look-out to pick up the other burglars.

"The level of experience shown by a couple of these burglars indicates they may have prior involvement in committing these types of crimes," Claxton said. "They were in and out in a matter of minutes wearing concealed clothing which somewhat obliterated their descriptions. However an analysis of the video reveals African-American male involvement."

Investigators want anyone with information about this crime to contact the Sheriff 's office at 903-236-8400. As always, those who have information that choose to remain confidential can call Crime stoppers.
