Rod Run will open Treatment Center's Party in the Patch One night and one day each year Kilgore streets are filled with hot-rods. That day and that night are almost here again. Kilgore's Rock n' Roll Whataburger draws hot rodders in from all over the region for its annual Cruise Night in conjunction with and benefiting East Texas Treatment Center's Party in the Patch. Rodders line up around the restaurant to show off their muscled-up cars. Milton and Donnie Sullivent have been rodding for more than 10 years. Milton, in a two-door hard-top 1957 Chevy Bel-Air and Donnie in a five-window 1936 Ford Deluxe Coupe. "We're like one big family out there," Donnie said. "You get to know everybody and enjoy the trips to other cities and states, where you see familiar faces as well as new ones." Milton said the world of street rods is growing more and more competitive. "It is an expensive hobby," he said. "But those of us who have taken it up take it seriously." Milton and Donnie do not come out in the rain. They are looking forward to good weather this years, because last year's rain kept their cars in their Liberty City garage until noon. "We still came out and saw the other rodders," Donnie said. "But our cars stayed put until the sun came out." Come see the Sullivent's cars 6 p.m. Friday, April 4 at Kilgore's Rock n' Roll Whataburger, before the ETTC Party in the Patch Street Dance at City Park. More hot-rod action can be seen Saturday at Kilgore City Park, when rods line the streets once again, for competition. To participate in the Rod Run for pre-1975 cars, meet at Whataburger 6 p.m. Friday, April 4. The first 100 participants are guaranteed dash plaques. A pre-entry drawing is scheduled as are awards.
